Lifted the hand throttle turned the key. It still gets stuck from time to time but I have only moved the motor a few times since its going to take a while to get all the parts used to moving again. After 5-10 turns of the key it will eventually disengage and then often fire right up on the very next turn (and usually the next 5-10 starts after that). I am a new boater. Other times I turn the key and the starter engages the flywheel and stays stuck in the "up" position (engaged). Left it up for a couple of weeks and then it wouldn't go down. Normally, if it is in gear, I can lift the back of the motor and tilt it forward and it will lock in the up position. . My Trim Gauge is stuck in the up position on an 05 Triton TR186. Manually lowered again but in a few minutes it came back up. I was able to free Bendix using socket to tap Bendix free. First thing you need to check is that you have 12 volts from the big solenoid connection lead that goes to the motor and the frame of the trim pump when you press the up or down position respectively. Trim got stuck in up position while on the lake, had to be hauled in. This made it worse. If I turned the key back to the "on" position the motor would instantly try to start. It was working perfectly fine the day before on the water but when morning came I found out it wouldn't start because the starter is stuck in the flywheel. I did that three or four times no issues. i took off the cover to discover that my starter gear had somehow popped up in starting postion. The boat is docked, stern in. To test the limit switch circuit, lower the OD to the down position and slowly raise it with the trim toggle up until it stops. The trim UP works just fine, and now the motor now being in the full upright position (horizontal to the boat), due to me trying to figure out what’s wrong.
